Regardless of what may cause your bad breath, good oral hygiene is essential.
Dentists are taught in dental school about the oral causes of bad breath (halitosis). If you have bad breath, you may want to start with your general dentist and ask about treatment options. You can also contact your state dental association (opens in a new window) to see what specialists or additional resources are available in your area.
If your dentist determines that your mouth is healthy and that the bad breath odor is not of oral origin, you probably will be referred to your general doctor or to a specialist to determine the cause of the odor and for treatment.
